Environmental Health and Safety Manager

SUMMARY:

The Environmental Health and Safety (EHS) Manager is responsible for developing, implementing, and maintaining programs to ensure the safety and well-being of employees, as well as compliance with environmental regulations within an organization. Their primary objective is to create a safe and healthy work environment, preventing accidents, injuries, and damage to the environment.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Develop and implement comprehensive environmental, health, and safety programs to ensure compliance with local, state, and federal regulations.
  • Conduct regular inspections and audits of facilities, equipment, and processes to identify potential hazards and ensure compliance with safety standards.
  • Assess risks and develop strategies to mitigate workplace hazards, including the implementation of preventive measures and safety protocols.
  • Develop and deliver new hire training programs to educate employees on safety procedures, emergency response protocols, and environmental regulations.
  • Investigate accidents, incidents, and near misses to determine root causes, identify corrective actions and prevent future occurrences.
  • Maintain accurate records and documentation related to safety inspections, incidents, training, and regulatory compliance.
  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams to ensure that environmental, health, and safety considerations are integrated into business operations, projects, and product development.
  • Stay up to date with relevant laws, regulations, and industry best practices to ensure compliance and continuously improve the EHS program.
  • Maintain consistent and document compliance with all relevant Safety, Health and Environmental (SHE), Good Manufacturing Practice (GMP), Data Integrity (DI), quality and best practice requirements.
  • Manage the participation in Occupational Safety and Health (OSHA) inspections providing inspectors with appropriate documents and identifying safety measures.
  • Handle workers’ compensation claims in the event of a workplace accident. Assures that claims for injuries and illnesses are updated in the log. Verify compliance with health and safety regulations and ensure all necessary records are maintained, prepared according to established guidelines.
  • To act as point of contact for GMP areas, for general housekeeping within those areas and assist with Safety and quality patrols where required, to contribute to a safe and healthy workplace.
  • Provide guidance and support to management and employees regarding EHS policies, procedures, and best practices.
  • Promote a culture of safety and environmental awareness throughout the organization through effective communication and engagement initiatives.
  • Participate in internal and external audits to assess compliance with EHS regulations and standards.
  • Maintain, review and report safety performance, identifying opportunities for improvement along with implementing preventative and corrective actions as required. Organize and participate in safety committee activities.

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Occupational Health and Safety, Environmental Science, or a related field.
  • Three to five years’ training experience a must. Ability to train and educate employees on environmental health and safety practices.
  • At least five years of related experience preferred. Certification a plus.
  • Proven experience in developing and implementing EHS programs, preferably in a similar role or industry.
  • Experience developing and implementing environmental health and safety programs.
  • In-depth knowledge of local, state, and federal environmental, health, and safety regulations.
  • Strong understanding of workplace hazards, risk assessment methodologies, and safety management systems.
  • Excellent analytical skills to identify potential hazards and develop effective solutions.
  • Exceptional communication and interpersonal skills to effectively train employees, collaborate with cross-functional teams.
  • Ability to lead and facilitate incident investigations, root cause analysis, and the development of corrective actions.
  • Detail-oriented with strong organizational and documentation skills.
  • Must be Bilingual.

PHYSICIAL REQUIREMENTS:

  • Prolonged periods walking throughout the Plant.
  • Must be able to lift up to 25 pounds.
